FAQ: Gudnak Card Game - Big Plays, Bolder Moves and Epic Battles
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

How many players can play Gudnak?

Gudnak is built to support 2, 3 and 4 player games. Right now, that’s the way it’s meant to be played—but who knows what the future holds? If we make another friend we’ll have to add a 5 player map I guess?

What’s the age recommendation?

Gudnak is fun for all ages, but some cards have intense battles and fantasy themes. We recommend parental guidance for younger players and have playtested with kiddos as young as 10 successfully (the child won I don’t want to talk about it)

How do I add Add-Ons to my Kickstarter pledge?

When you first back the project, click “Back this project”, choose your reward, and then continue to the pledge screen. Here, you’ll see the Add-Ons section (on mobile, you might need to scroll down a bit). Select the extras you want, and you’ll get an estimated total in your local currency before confirming your pledge.

Does it come with a board? How do I get a cool neoprene playmat?

Both the Core Set and Marvorren expansion come with a board. Each has a two player map and the reverse sides have 4 (Core Set) and 3 (Marvorren) player maps.

Neoprene Playmats are available as Add-Ons! When you configure your pledge, just select one from the list.

I want to sleeve every card, how many sleeves do I need?

If you buy the…

Core Set only: 2x Gudnak logo sleeves or 1x Faction logo sleeves

Auroxi & Rotborn expansions only: 2x Gudnak logo sleeves or 1x Faction logo sleeves

Marvorren expansion only: 2x Gudnak logo sleeves or 1x Faction logo sleeves and 1x Marvorren sleeves

If you do all of the above with the Gameplay Bundle, you’ll want: 6x Gudnak logo sleeves or 2x Faction logo sleeves and 1x Marvorren sleeves

And if you want to sleeve all booster cards: First off, you really love sleeves and we appreciate your commitment. Each booster box contains 264 cards across multiple factions, so it all depends on how many boxes you’re getting, and I’ll let you do the math according to your vision, you beautiful Sleeve Monster, you.

How does card rarity work in Gudnak booster packs?

Each booster pack contains 11 cards, broken down like this:

1 Token/Rules reminder card 4 Common cards, which consist of basic fighters. 2 Uncommon cards, which are heroes and tactics. 2 Foil Common or Uncommon Cards 1 Rare 1 Foil Rare

Mythic cards appear in 1 in 6 packs and replace one of the Rare cards. These are exceptional alternate arts and full art treaments.

Exalted cards appear in 1 in 24 packs and replace the Foil Rare card. These are full art foil version of 3 power heroes from the 5 featured factions.

How many unique cards are in this booster set? And how many at each rarity level?

Exact numbers are subject to change a little, but it’s currently 169 total unique alternate art cards, broken up like so: - 4 Tokens - 45 Commons (Basic fighters with new frames/decorations) - 50 Uncommons (Heroes of all power levels + Tactics with fancy new frames) - 40 Rares (Mostly Heroes of all power levels + a handful of Tactics + maybe some new art Basic IIIs if we hit our stretch goals…) - 20 Mythics (Heroes, these average 2 per booster box) - 10 Exalted (The rarest and shiniest Heroes, these average 1 per booster box. Tim is very thirsty for these so please flaunt your fancy card to him upon pulling it.)

What are the rules for the new Draft Mode that the Booster Boxes introduce?

Full rules coming soon, but the short version is: - You can play with 2 or more players, but it’s generally better the more participants there are. - Each player brings 3 booster packs. - You open a pack, pick one card from it, then pass the rest to the player to your left. - Continue until there are no cards left from those packs, then crack the next pack and repeat! - Once you’re done drafting all packs, you build a smaller decks and play games with it - Oh, and in Gudnak Draft you can combine factions, so the decks you build can get pretty wild :)

Does the Marvorren box include the Rotborn and Auroxi expansions?

Nope, but it does include lots of new cards for those two factions! 46 Rotborn and 36 Auroxi cards (and 1 new Stronghold), to be exact. This is to help them catch up to the total number of cards that the Core factions have so deck construction options are just as plentiful for all.

So, for instance, if you’re a Rotborn die-hard (ew why, they’re so slimey) and only ever want to play them, you’ll want the Marvorren Expansion as well as the Rotborn expansion.

In terms of development and release model, is this game more of a board game, LCG, or TCG?

Gudnak sits in between a board game and Expandable Card Game (LCG is copyright so we can’t use that term anyway). We never want rarity/collectibility to impact your ability to build the deck you want, so our boxes are clear on what they include and have no randomness. We’re currently planning to release about 1 expansion a year.

That being said, boy do we like shiny stuff too. So our new Booster Box product is us adding a little TCG collectibility on top! These will only include cards from previous sets, no unique ones you can’t find in any other box. But these will all be alternate art style cards from Bonedust and a bunch of our other favorite artists as guests.

Hopefully this scratches the right itch for everyone, whether you want to keep things small and accessible, or bling out your deck with fun cosmetics to show off to your friends.

How do I get the Kickstarter exclusive cards from the first Kickstarter? And can I get the exclusives from this Kickstarter later if I decide not to pledge?

Unfortunately, if you missed the first Kickstarter, you can’t directly order the exclusives from it (it pains us too, but that’s why the “exclusive” part is fun!). Same deal with this Kickstarter, you can buy the game and most other products after this campaign ends, but you’ll miss out on the cards that are exclusive to this Kickstarter.

But don’t give up hope! We’re hopeful that the new booster boxes will lead to a little bit of a secondary/trading market in the future, so maybe you can trade your cool KS2 alt art card for that one you missed the first time around.

Does this game have a Discord server?

It does, and our community is AMAZING! (and I don’t use all caps lightly)

The designers and artist are active in there as well, come join the party: https://discord.gg/eepGQNP7z5

Does Gudnak have any tournaments or organized play set up?

We do host tournaments/organized play ourselves. The World Championships last year were at PAX Unplugged and were A BLAST. The outcomes of our tournaments also impact the storyline of our comic book series, and likely future cards as a result. You might even see some alternate art cards inspired by the winning decks as a stretch goal…

We also plan to expand organized play more broadly to game stores this year.

How and when do I pay at the end of the Kickstarter?

When the campaign ends, Kickstarter will automatically collect your pledge. If there’s an issue—like your bank blocking international charges—you’ll be notified to fix it.

Once pledges are collected, we’ll use the Pledge Manager to finalize your order and calculate shipping based on your region. You’ll also have one last chance to add extra items!

Who's better at Gudnak, Tim or Ian? And what about Chess, Monopoly, Super Smash Bros, Magic, Hearthstone, Pickleball, and the Star Wars LCG?

Great question, the answer to all of these is Ian. Especially the last couple.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
